Another Flashback

Okay, it is Friday (oh how I wish it were really true! Darn Sundays! shakes fist)

I know, things are screwed up around here but I will get myself to the present-day eventually. I just have good stuff to show you and haven’t had time until now. :) Bear with me.

So, on Friday, Casey and I drove up to Portland, Maine to see the Decemberists, this really cool band from Portland, Oregon. (woah- the Portlands!)

When Case first played them for me, I thought, “Damn, that guy’s voice is totally whiney.” That thought was immediately followed by, “I love this band!”

I haven’t lost the love.

They were awesome in concert. We went to see them at this little club called the Big Easy- the darn place doesn’t even have a website and you can’t order tickets online. (I know!! What is it 1988?!) We had to drive up to a Bull Moose Music in Salem, NH to get tickets. This is how much we wanted to see them.

It was completely worth it though- they gave a great show. I especially enjoyed finding out that their drummer and their keyboardist/ accordion player were both women. They both kicked butt too.

The band also got special bonus points from Jessica because they had an upright bass (I think that is what they are called) and one of the guys also jumped down from the stage and started banging on a huge drum in the crowd, wearing a waist length black beard. (huh?)

Here are some pictures:

The singer, I think his name is Colin, has this amazing unique way of singing and I have had their songs stuck in my head since we went. Casey is sick and tired of me playing their music over and over but I am sure he won’t kick me out of the apartment so I am going to keep playing it. Ha!

You should check them out if you get the chance- at the very least, try out one of their cds. (A few of their songs are available for free here! Thanks, Casey!)

If you like the Weakerthans (Miss Pudding), I have a feeling you will also like the Decemberists. Not that they are that similar or anything but I just think that.

Okay- enough tired rambling. I hope you all have a gentle Monday. Bisoux!

They are playing St. Louis tomorrow night! Unfortunately, I can’t go because of pregnancy and smokey bars–but I’ve been encouraging Jeff to go in my place.

Billy Liar is on my Fluid Pudding Mix, Vol. I CD! (The CD is filled with songs that make me smile for one reason or another.) I’m so glad you guys enjoyed the show!

That’s it, Man. Jeff is GOING.

My roommate looooooves the Decemberists. She went and saw them 2 nights in a row when they were here a few months ago. I think i should borrow her cd. I don’t know much of anything by them, but I did see them on the John McEnroe show a week or so ago…
