Friday Night Loser
Super crazy around these parts… I have been trying to write this post for days and days. (I know same old blogger lament.) So, I am going to post it on a Friday night. What? Yes, I am a loser. What of it?
I have been taking some new pictures of some of my old FOs- I was pleased with how this pic turned out- it is my first pair of socks from back in 2005 that I never took a finished picture of for this here blog. You people know how hard it is to take pictures for own feet, right?
This is the best one out of about 30 that I took.
I have been collecting some new knitting books for my big project… really just an excuse to buy knitting books. Don’t tell Casey. (oops.)

While have been away, I finished the hat for my brother’s friend. Turned out pretty cool! I ended up using Karabella Aurora 8. There was a lady in the yarn store trying to tell me not to get the bright red but i just had to. I think it looks good…. whatever, haters.
It looks kinda grey here but it is actually more brown than grey.
I started by using Jessica’s Cashmere Ribbed Hat pattern but sorta made it up at the end because I was using a different gauge of yarn. It turned out okay. Kinda funky at the top but it works.
Here is the scarf my mom made to match the hat- go mom! She did stripes- I am so proud.

Also while I have been MIA, I got the sweetest package from Sarah, the plucky knitter. We have just started chatting not that long ago and I love her. She has a boston terrier that I know would be Bob’s best friend and just got herself a brand new, adorable, website. (go say hi!)
She sent me this lovely pale aqua Posh knits sock yarn- the color was seriously difficult to photograph. This was the best I could do. Next to it is a picture I snagged of her address label. So jealous! She has Boston address labels!

On a completely random note, I am bummed that Stephanie does not seem to be coming to Cambridge anymore- I put it on my calendar when she first announced her tour dates. Le sigh. I guess I will just have to trek out to Webs, what a shame.
bwahahaha….
Okay, Casey and I are off to drink Maya’s Steve’s booze. (is that correct english? oh well.)

Aren’t those address labels fun? I am such a sucker for anything with a Boston on it! Oh, and I really like your socks - bet they don’t have nasty holes in them like the ones I just frogged… looking forward to seeing what you make with the Posh.
: )

Your socks and seeing the lovely stuff at Plucky’s blog has made me happy. This knitter should get of the ‘puter and onto the sticks!

I love the way that hat turned out, I think the top of it looks really cool.
Those address labels made me squeal outloud….so stinkin’ cute.

Where does one get Boston labels? Must acquire! Old Navy has Boston Terrier dog toys. Got one for Oscar that makes him look a little cannibalistic, but so very, very cute! Yay for knitters with Bostons!

I love your hat, I think it looks fantastic!! I love the red in it, it gives it that added punch!! Cute sock picture, too.

Wow! Those are some great first socks!! Mine was a grey, shapeless, tube-sock-blob. Nice work!

great first socks! my first (and so far only) pair were horrendous. and i like the red in the hat — what’s not to love about a little red?

There is always an excuse to buy books. I often don’t need one at all (which does scare my husband…) but I have too much books already.
The socks look very nice, it took me years to figure out how to knit socks. I would have not guessed yours to be a first pair! I like the colors. And your blog is very fun!

thank you for posting the link to that hat pattern! i love the decreases at the crown.

Pretty socks! Love the hat crown too. I’ve been buying tons of knitting books too while I’m on a short yarn diet, but at least not I have endless supplies of patterns for all those yarns in my stash!

Nice socks - I like the colours
Um, so glad you didn’t listen to the lady in the yarn store - bright red and brown go SO WELL together. It turned out really great, I really like the stripe, it’s quite unique.

I like the socks! Is that Opal yarn? and I can’t argue with the books - it seems like I am on a little book collecting binge of my own!

Nice books! Wow! So don’t leave us hanging - what’s the big project???
April 1st, 2007 at 4:23 pm
Sorry I haven’t followed up with you about a certain big project. I asked Randy about some technical help recently, but apparently I need to just show him the email because he had no idea what i was talking about.
Normally I stay away from socks that have those little patterns on them (I don’t know what the correct name is) just stripes or solids for me, but I am loving those socks. And has it really been two years since those socks were made? I remember that post. I guess I have been reading for 3 years though….wow.

I will be able to announce the Big Project soon… I can’t stand not blabbing because I am SO FREAKING EXCITED! (totally obnoxious, I know.)

Well, um, I couldn’t get off my ass on Friday night to do anything, much less blog, so who’s the real loser? Love the socks and the hat.

The hat, the mom scarf, and the socks are all super fantastico.
Karabella Aurora 8 makes the BEST hats - so squooshy and wonderful, and the depth of their colors is fantastic, too.

Hey Jess, thanks for the comment over at my place
I’m so impressed with your ability to get a picture of your own feet, from a side view no less, no matter how many shots it took! That is skill. Looks like you’re gearing up for some major sock knittage, how delightful, can’t wait to see the results of that (and all of the WIP pictures too)!
I, for one, think the red stripe on the brown-ish hat looks awesome. The small punch of bright colour really bring the other colours to life as well. Jess - 1, ladyinyarnstore - 0.
Those Boston Terrier address labels are precious. I think you need to get some of your own.. or even better, knit something with a Bob motif. That would be so rad (yes, I just used the word rad, I am a true kid of the 80s).
Have a great week!
Colleen

Hi Jess,
Thanks for visiting my blog! I recognize some of your books and see some that look interesting. My husband and I were both English majors back in the day, so we believe there’s no such thing as “too many books.” When you run out of shelves, stack them and make end tables to hold more books!
Fondly,
Paula
