Reads!
Boy is it chilly around here! Bob is driving me nuts because it is too cold for us to go down to the dog park and he wants to play fetch all day long. I know, it is not his fault.
I’ve been reading a bunch since the beginning of the year. I got some books for Christmas and have a couple that I borrowed. I also have a part of this site where I write up the books I’ve read- not tons of detail about them but the links go to Amazon anyway. Thought it might be fun to talk about reading a bit since I haven’t done that in a long time.
The first, Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls was a nice little futuristic story- not wonderful but entertaining. A good library book, I think.
The second, White Teeth, I am sure everyone has seen or already read. I hate to say it (sorry Maurene!) but this one was painful for me to read… I just didn’t identify with any of the characters. I know people love it but I just couldn’t get into it.
I did enjoy Case Histories- rather dark but good. The Observations was a good historical story of an Irish girl in 1800s rural Scotland. I love Scotland and Ireland so it was fun for me.
Lastly, I am reading the bible.
It really is as good as people say- I want to knit the EZ way. How can you not? She is so convincing- I am a convert.
Speaking of knitting, I found a jaywalker at the bottom of my knitting basket!
I have turned the heel and am dreading when I get to the toe- I still can’t graft to save my life. The yarn is Ellen’s Half Pint Farm.
This post kinda sucks and I feel bad- go watch this… you won’t be sorry.

Your posts never suck! It is cold as a bitch down here, so I bet it’s WAAAAYYY colder up there. That sock yarn is beautiful! I also have a jaywalker in the bottom of my knitting basket.

Your Jaywalkers look beautiful in that yarn–I love it!

Mine were sad but my knitting buddy just finished hers and they fit her delicate little feet beautifully–I was knitting the smallest size, so you’ll hopefully have better luck than me!

Sam hates this cold and is bouncing off the walls!!! So, you have my sympathies. I love hearing what people are reading (you and I seem to have very similar taste in books, by the way).
Oh, and I really like the yarn you are using for your Jaywalker!

Oh, forgot to ask, what is that colorway you are using for the Jaywalker?

I completely agree with you regarding White Teeth. I just couldn’t enjoy any of the characters. I enjoyed On Beauty much more. Very cute socks - I also can’t graft so I just do a three-needle bind-off on the inside!

PINEAPPLE! I love Ross. Hate Jay Leno, but I love Ross and will watch if he’s on.
I gave Jaywalkers a shot about a year ago. Turns out they don’t work so well on those with wide feet. I kept adding pattern repeats and ripping, adding and ripping. I guess they just weren’t meant to be. So sad. I love the pattern.

aw..i’m sorry to hear about white teeth. because i luuuuuuuurve it so. you might like on beauty better…but i’d steer clear of autograph man because even with all my boundless zadie love, i couldn’t get through that thing.

Teach Bob to jump for the ball. It tires Apollo out faster than just running does. I don’t think I can throw a ball long enough to tire Apollo out with just running, but throw in a bit of jumping and half hour later, he’s ready to stop.

Finally–someone else who didn’t like White Teeth!!! I remember that reading it was like a death march. But no one agreed with me. I just finished Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foeher and highly recommend it.
