I really wished it was interactive, so I could feed it some veggies or something. or better, yet I wish it wasn’t a guinea pig, but a dog! No, even better, a real live dog! That lives at your house! ;-)

Hey, were you at the Arab Strap show last night? If not, you have a doppleganger who wears a lovely minty handknit hat.

    Hi Jess,
I don’t have a weblog or anything, but have been reading yours for a while now. (i love it!) I read about your want for a puppy. I just went through this in December. I struggled with this for weeks – we talked about it and even made (several!) Pros and Cons lists. (We have an 8 yr old cat and I felt a wee bit (well, a whole lot) guilty about even thinking of a dog. My boyfriend and I bought a Peekapoo on Christmas Eve and I was so nervous, it was like bringing a child home. (sorry – this is my first time at the dog ownership thing) Our peekapoo is soo cute. Very cuddly, black and white, and because of his breed – no shedding. He’s a poodle and pekingese mix. He’s almost 6 months old now and just reached 5 lbs. He was only 1 pound when we brought him home. We also live in an apartment – so were able to train him to both use the bathroom outdoors and inside as well (on his puppy pads). Training him on the puppy pads took less than one week (and no accidents!) To be fair, because of his pekingese breed, I think he has potential to be a barker, but is not at all. He only barks about maybe ten little barks a day…and that’s probably because he’s jealous that we’re on the phone or something. But for the most part, as long as his needs are being met, he’s a great pup that barks almost never. (as in – it surprises me when he does so) Also, because of his size, he needs MINIMAL exercise – so once around the block, two separate times a day – and that’s all the exercise ours needs. He’s the cutest little man and I love him so much. I can email you a picture of him if you’d like to get an idea of what he (peekapoos) looks like. Sorry to be so long-winded about this subject, but I truly did just struggle with this same decision – and you see who won – the puppy. Since I’m an apartment-dweller myself, I had the same list of concerns as you (exercise requirements, the shedding, the barking, the destruction from chewing, etc…) I guess I should also add that he has NOT CHEWED UP ANYTHING!!! (when we told folks we were getting a puppy they all told us how much he’d chew up our furniture, etc..) Ok, I guess that’s my 2 cents. Let me know if you’d like more info on these cute puppies! Hope you have a good day!
(also, i looked on your puppy breed link to check out the peekapoos – the one shown doesn’t seem to be the way a typical peekapoo looks. maybe he just needs a haircut or something. they really are so much cuter in person) I think the peekapoo would be a great breed for you to consider (especially since you wanted something smaller anyway).
