Disappointed

March 16th, 2006

I got my Brooks Farm yarn the other day (really fast service! seriously!) and I was so excited when I saw the box had arrived so soon.

Unfortunately, I was so bummed when I saw the actual yarn- the colors were not even close to what was on their website! I know that it is really hard to take color accurate pictures of yarn but…. darn!

Brooks Farm

Just to remind you, here are the pictures from their site:

Gingerfourplay-11-1 Santafefourplay-2

The one that really disappointed me was the Santa Fe (right) – look how bright the aqua is in the picture! It is a dull blue in real life and there is no white in the yarn, as shown. So sad!

I guess I will just have to wait until Maryland Sheep and Wool. (Yes, I am totally going!)

That yarn is so yummy though- it feels like heaven. I will definitely be getting some of it when I can actually see the colors in front of me.

do they offer a color card on their website? it’s probably worth it to get one, even if they charge a few dollars for it. hand dyed yarn, flash photography and monitors do not mix well :)

That stinks! I’m always worried about that when ordering yarn off the internet. And I’ve been itching to get some Brooks Farm yarn myself. I was hoping to go to MS&W too, but I just found out I have a wedding to go to that same weekend – so bummed!

wow – you’ll be there in person this time? Not mini frecklegirl?

:) sorry to hear about the yarn..I had that happen to me not long ago…
I’m sure they’d exchange it at Sheep and Wool. I did that with Tess last year. :)

Oh, how disappointing! Hopefully after you get used to the colors you’ll think of something different you want to use them for.

  5. Scout Says:

    Can you return it?

  6. sarah b. Says:

Yay for MDS&W! While we had a lot of fun photographing Mini-Frecklegirl last year, I think we’ll have a lot more fun hanging with the real thing!

I can sympathize! I know that it’s hard to order yarn without actually seeing it and feeling it, but I never think that it’s going to be soooo far off the mark. I once ordered what I thought were muted, autumnal shades of yarn. When it arrived, it was brighter than acidic clown vomit.

oh, i’m so sorry! and i’m the one who was singing the yarn’s praises. (hiding in shame.)

What a bummer. I hope you can find some use for it!

I’d look into their return policy.

rats – and it really is such a great yarn to knit up. too bad it’s all the way in texas – if it was close, i’d suggest a road trip.

can I get the pattern for the ruffle scarf?

The colours are lovely, but I totally understand your disappointment! The one on the left is pretty different…..Do you still like them? I hope so!

OMG I ordered 3 skeins of the Santa Fe, after hearing how much everyone loved the Brooks Farm yarn. I even waited for them to dye a new batch becuase they were at a “show” in Pittsburgh.
I received my yarn this week and couldn’t believe how different, dull and disappointing the colors were.
I have been trying to decide what to do……..
Have you contacted them, or are you in limbo like me?

  16. Holly Says:

You’ll be there this year? YAY!

I totally understand the frustration about their colors. I had that issue when I was trying to get another skein from them after MS&W last year. Maybe they’ll take it back?

Oh! I hate it when that happens. I find that it is especially difficult to get a good feel of the blue/green yarns. I am sure that you will still come up with a fun project for the yarn!
