Threading
Ever since I cut my hair super short, I have been bothered by my eyebrows. I don’t know why but they seemed to be more noticeable with less hair on my head.
I’ve never really plucked them and had no idea how to shape them correctly. It is not that I thought they were bushy or anything but they had no real definition.
So my friend Jenn and I were talking one time during knitting night and she mentioned that she wanted to have her eyebrows shaped too. I remembered that my wonderful hairdresser, Jen at Salon Luna in Cambridge, had mentioned getting her eyebrows threaded and how much she liked the results.
It is always more fun to do this crazy stuff with a friend so I made an appointment for us at the salon and off we went!
I was very nervous before the appointment because I didn’t want to look permanently surprised or just weird but there was not really time to get nervous during the actual appointment- she had both Jenn and I done in under 15 minutes.
The procedure itself was not that pleasant, but like I said, was over very quickly. She took white thread and twisted it and then moved it along the line of hair and then zips it out in one motion. Then moves it to another spot and repeats.
It was a very interesting experience. Ouch!
I am happy with the results though. She didn’t take off too much and I think it flatters my face and haircut better.

It might be the angle, but it flatters your eyes too! How funny that you got threaded…I was thinking about going tomorrow, but I think I need to let mine grow in a little more.

OH WOW! There is a difference…very flattering! I’m a plucker myself!

I don’t really understand what threading actually entails, but they do look fabulous! I think I’d be too skwirmy to let someone do that though!

Go for the wax next time. It’s tons cheaper and over quickly. Looks good!

Funny how something so small can make such a big difference. It looks great. I’ve never gotten into doing anything with my eyebrows but I always think I should.

I love the subtle difference. I am a fan of threading as well. No one around my house does it, so I have to do it around trips to Manhattan and Queens. $25? Wow! I’m a little shocked. It’s $7 here, but I think it’s due to stiff competition. Never underestimated the power of well-groomed brows.

They look great. Very subtle and cleaned up. If you think that the threading hurts, as an esthetics student I can tell you that waxing is so much quicker and less painful. Plus it’s easier to shape. They look great though. It’s hard to be a redhead with those damn sparse brows huh. I just recently had mine tinted and I love!!!

I’ve never heard of threading. They look great. Hmmm must get my eyebrows profesionally done soon!

This is more of an FYI…
Did you know that this “threading” techinique was created and perfected in prison by female inmates that are NOT allowed to have anything made out of metal, much less something as dangerous (potential weapon) as tweezers?
Most people think it’s the “latest” thing, and I find it quite hilarious — and the only reason I know of this myself is because I was a detention officer for some time. I personally prefer to just get my eyebrows waxed as it is much faster and has great results.
ANYWAY… Your eyebrows look GREAT! They definately enhance your features and your beautiful eyeyes.
BTW I found your blog thru www.verymom.com

Threading is actually an ancient technique that was practiced primarily in the middle east. But it might have made a comeback back in prison???? Dunno.

NICE! They bring out our pretty eyes more now. Although, you wanna see eyebrows that need shaping? I ought to show you my eigth grade “unibrow” photo. AND I AM SOOO NOT EXAGGERRTATING. I had ONE. EYEBROW. Goddamned ArmIndian genes (armenian + indian = one hairy kid)

I’ve always wondered about threading, thanks for photodocumenting the results! Jen at Salon Luna is the best, she’s been cutting my hair for about the last 7 years.

You have great eyebrows!

You look fab! I need to get mine done but I haven’t been able to stand to let them grow in before I go. They’re too dark and bushy, and I’m too pale.

I’m so glad you still love Jennifer! She gave me the best cut ever last month– I am loving it. And your eyebrows? Perfection.

Nice eyebrows! (they had a good original shape too) Christie is right, the shaping really draws attention to your eyes. I’m a plucker right now, can’t stand the thought of growing them in enough to be re-shaped. I look back at my highschool graduation photo (pre-eyebrow alteration) and am shocked at how hairy they were…

I love threading and prefer it to waxing, but haven’t found anyone here in Tallahassee who does it. I think it hurts more than any of my tattoos have, but the results are SO worth it. Your eyebrows look great, the shape does wonders for your beautiful eyes!
