I was walking home from my first class tonight (think it will be a good one- yay!) and I saw something that just blew my mind.
Just for background, it was really crappy out today- cold, snowy and slushy. Just gross. See?
Blech!
This girl is walking in front of me and I notice that she is walking weird, even taking into account the slush and ice. Then I realize why- she is wearing flip-flops. Crappy old navy flip-flops and trying not to get her tootsies wet in the gigantic puddles.
Wah?!
I really don’t understand this fashion statement. Casey’s sisters do the same thing…
Sandals are not supposed to be year-round footwear in New England. They just aren’t.
I don’t know why it pisses me off so much but it just does.
Dipshits.

that’s too much. i feel like it’s a college-aged gal thing. c’mon! frankly, i can’t believe any of us are brave enough to wear them in the city EVER. too dirty.

It’s soooo stupid, isn’t it?? I teach school and I am always giving the kids are hard time for wearing things like that in the winter. And then they have the gall to complain that they are cold!!! I guess some people will do anything in the name of “style”.

The boys here do that as well. One guy was wearing adidas flip flops, that were literally falling apart, with no socks AND we had just gotten a snow storm. Silly People!

Well, I can like, totally understand. I mean she like, totally must have just had like an awesome manicure. Like, you don’t want to toally ruin it with socks and shoes? You know? So, like, whatever.
Let me guess, was she also wearing the world’s shortest skirt?

Oh this made me laugh. I think dipshit is a funny word!

Oh how I can relate to this post!
I teach at school as well and can’t tell you how many girls (and boys!) wear flip flops in subzero temperatures.
Uhhh, snow, ice, and bare feet do not mix!

Goodness, little girl – you are not in California anymore!
That would have made me mad too. But I would have probably also laughed, evil-ly of course.
We’ll miss you at knitting tonight!

And I thought people in Cali were insane with the flip flops. UGh. So not year round footwear.

That reminds me of the girls in fucking SYRACUSE, mid-winter, who would wear TANK TOPS to go out at night, but would NOT WEAR JACKETS (parkas are sooo not CUTE, yo), so you’d see them alking up and down marshall street in sub-zero temps HALF NAKED. insane. That flip-flop girl truly IS a dipshit.

OH but it’s so COOL!
NOT!

I saw that today too. It wasn’t slushy, but raining and in the 50′s. Why would anyone wear flip flops?! I don’t get it either. I coldn’t wear flip flops year round even in So Cal where it’s warmer.

I am in NYC and seeing inappropriate foot-wear drives me insane (as does inappropriate dressing in general). A couple weeks ago when it was freaking freezing, a woman in my office was wearing calf length pants (clamdiggers/pedal-pushers/capris; I don’t know. these were wider legged)with bare legs and sling-back shoes. While she looked nice, this is not what you wear in January!! The whole guy-in-shorts-in-winter thing, which I see constantly, makes me insane. If I were still single, I would never date a guy who did this.

I just found your blog for the first time, and I love it! I work at a college in the Boston area, and spend a fair amount of time wondering why the hell so many of my students wear flip-flops in the winter. I can definitely understand where you’re coming from!
