Eating and Drinking

Whew! What a whirlwind…

Casey and I got back from New Hampshire last night and, despite having a good time, we were both really happy to be home. Case wrote a little post about our weekend and I am going to steal some of his pictures. Our digital camera was plugged in when we left, which made me mistakenly think that it was actually plugged into an outlet… so, I only got one picture before it went dead. So sad.

Here it is:

Casey is using the old- school apple peeler on Wednesday- otherwise known as Pie Baking Day. We got to Casey’s mom’s house pretty late so we probably only peeled enough apples for about 8 pies… there were 18 made that day. My hand is still hurting me- I was in charge of slicing up the peeled apples… think of the knitting! Jeez!

ouch!

The pies were worth it though- yum! That lard crust thing is really amazing (and I had my doubts)- shortening is for the birds. ;)

I spent a good part of my time knitting, huddled by the fire. (in a turtleneck, with a sweater over it!) brrr!

Anyway, it was nice to be with Casey on Thanksgiving. As I said before, we usually separate on holidays and this was the first time that I wasn’t at home… it was a bit sad for me because of that and I know my mom sounded really down on the phone.

It was fun to be with him all weekend, instead of getting phone calls as he made his way from his dad’s to his mom’s, etc. I enjoyed the food at both places… a bit too much. I think my stomach has expanded two sizes. Ugh.

There was a bit too much of this as well:

Casey’s mom and sister dragged us out with them a few nights and we went to a Casey high school reunion party another night. He was cute introducing me as his wife to everyone. ;)

That is about it for the weekend!

Our apartment is a complete wreck because we have the boxes of winter clothes up here for the seasonal transition… ugh. When I have a house, I am going to have an enormous closet so I don’t have to drag clothes in and out of storage twice a year. I haaaaate it.

Also, we got our Christmas tree and decided to put it in a different spot this year, which required re-arranging our living room. Casey and I are sitting closer together, which is good, but I don’t seem to have a spot to put a beverage. Which is very important.

Okay, I am rambling now… time to stop the crazy.

Hope you had a good holiday weekend! (if applicable)

Pie baking day, huh? Sound like a nice tradition. I used to try and get some friends together every year at Christmas time to make cookies, but it just never stuck. It usually just ended up being me!

I bet it *was* nice to not have to split up this year :)

Oh my gosh! I read Casey’s post and . . . I was in Portsmouth too! My husband and I were visiting my grandparents who live about a mile outside of the town. I love it there - we spent Friday walking around the town - so quaint! Like you, for most of the time I was huddled by the fire with my knitting (and wine - keeps you warm, right?)

Sounds like a fun time! Pie Baking Day sounds like a yummy time. Jacob’s mom and aunts have the day after Thanksgiving tradition of getting up SUPER early to shop. I did not particpate this year!!!

We are in the same predicament with our soon to be gotten tree. I want it in a new spot but we’ll have to loose some furniture for it to happen.
Glad you got to spend the holiday with your hubby!

18 PIES??? Wow. And look at Casey helping! Adorable. Glad to hear you guys had a good holiday weekend, and that you were able to spend it together. I WISH it was cold enough here to wear winter clothes. :(

    mmm…pie…

Good times! I’m glad you had fun - I wish my thanksgiving had included pink drinks in martini glasses. :-)

Why did you have to bake 18 pies! don’t get me wrong — they look great. but that’s a ton of pies! i’m intrigued by this lard crust of which you speak.

18 pies! Wow! Ya’ll likes the mighty ol’ pie.
And as for a beverage holder, yes, that is a must. Try putting a beverage in your sneaker on the floor. It’s ghetto, but very functional.

I am first of all, so glad that Anne Marie has adopted the sneaker beer thing. Yes.

And I’m gladd you had a good thanksgiving. The pie looks yummy!

    :)
