How ironic…

October 20th, 2005

Well, Carrie, the knitting gods have punished me for doubting that you would not have enough yarn to finish your clapotis.

I really have not enough yarn to finish my clapotis. I am completely baffled here. I am using the same yarn that the pattern called for… and I have followed the instructions. (didn’t make it longer or anything…)

It even seems to measure correctly…. but see that tiny ball of yarn? I have about 60 stitches now.

Damnedclapotis

Stupid little ball of yarn.

In 2000, 358,995 cases of Clapotis were reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In the United States, approximately 75 percent of all reported cases of Clapotis are found in younger persons aged 15 to 29 years. The highest rates of infection are usually found in 15- to 19-year old women and 20- to 24-year-old men. Health economists estimate that the annual cost of Clapotis and its complications is close to $1.1 billion.

Are you spot-on gauge? I’ve heard that some people have had to break into a fourth to finish theirs :( I’d check the shop to see if we have any, but I don’t think KH carries that color :(

GrrRRRrrRRRr…I feel your pain. What a bummer.

I had the same problem with my Clapotis!!! You are using Lorna’s Laces? I used Lion and Lamb and ended up having to shell out the extra $$$ for another skein. But I do have to say that it was worth it and I love my Clapotis to pieces.

Man oh man! Maybe you’ll have a miracle ball of yarn like Carrie did! That sucks that you’re running out! :(

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it somehow makes it!

But boy oh boy does she look purdy. I am still itching to make one, but I think its at the back of the list right now. And I’m just stumped as to what yarn to use for it.

  7. Anne Marie Says:

Oh NO! You did catch the Clapotis disease (like Xtopher says). Yikes!

I’ve heard that Clapotis always seems to require more yarn than called for in the pattern - I had thought when I made mine that I’d have extra and ended up having to locate another skein (which was not easy, it was handpainted Malabrigo). I wish Knitty would update the pattern to reflect that it needs more yarn.

  9. Maya Says:

Sounds like the concencus is you need more yarn. wah! Are you absolutely SURE your yarn baskets aren’t holding out another skien? :-(

I love that color. And it was funny (I mentioned this on Carrie’s blog) but now I want to make a Clapotis. Everyone and their brother was making one and I could have cared less about having one. Then I saw this picture on Carries blog where she’s wearing hers and I thought “How cute!”

Now I want to make one.

It’s the 2nd wave of Clapotis!

My pal, Moe (www.slomoeknits.blogspot.com) ended up with one wonky corner on her Clapotis. She needed less than a meter of Estelle Silk to finish it, but couldn’t bring herself to but another whole ball for that amount! We all politely avert our eyes when the wonky corner is showing. It’s both out of respect for her beautiful knitting and embarassment (it’s almost as if her fly is perpetually down). The corner of shame… oh the shame… (I think she might maim me with her needles at our next SnB if she finds out about this. Heh heh.)

I hope that stupid little ball of yarn has a brother or sister out there somewhere for you. Stupid yarn.

  12. Moe Says:

Hi, Moe here. Steph doesn’t realize that I’m a regular reader of your blog (love it by the way - you and Casey are the cutest).

Alas, it’s true. I bound off and dropped the stitches about 8 rows short of the final corner. I even had MORE yardarge (in another yarn) than called for. Bought an extra ball to be sure. Still ran out. That said, in my defense, you SO cannot tell. I have had numerous unsolicited compliments from strangers (non-knitters!) on it. Off to leave a comment on Stephs blog now….

  13. Steph VW Says:

    Doh! BUSTED.
But like Moe says: You really don’t notice the corner unless she points it out. (darn… literary license has gotten me in trouble again!) And it is a gorgeous scarf. I’m so jealous of all these Clapotis that I spend my shifts at the LYS staring at the yarn thinking “Is that worthy of the Clapotis? Would that work? How about that?”

I don’t care what anyone says… that pattern is just wrong. I don’t know ANYONE who didn’t run out of yarn when they purchased the suggested amount in the instructions. I made two of them and I had to purchase more yarn both times. Yours is beautiful… good luck finding the yarn.
