Taste of Cambridge
Casey and I went over to the Taste of Cambridge tonight. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed…
According to the website, “This event features creative and abundant samples of food, beer and wine from the wonderful restaurants found around the city, enhanced by a beautiful outdoor setting, live music and a great crowd.”
Well, sorta.
There were some great restaurants that we love and others that we have been meaning to try. Here is Casey enjoying the Craigie Street Bistrot’s offering. (CSB is one of Casey’s favorites and just happens to be in our neighborhood.)
The problem was that most of the restaurants that have the reputation of being really good had lines that went on forever. We tried to get some yummy cheese from Formaggio Kitchen but the line never moved.
By the time we made it around to all the booths, I still didn’t feel like I had enough food to constitute a dinner. We could have waited in the lines to get something to put in our bellies but Casey’s stomach was bothering him (too many kinds of food at the same time?) and we decided to take off.
I guess it gave me some idea of how many great places there are in our town and I probably will try some of the places whose dishes I enjoyed but most of them only offered an appetizer or something… hard to tell if it was representative of their food or not.
It also cost us $30 apiece and, while I don’t mind donating the money to charity, it doesn’t seem like we got our money’s worth. I suppose that is not a huge deal but they really shouldn’t advertise it as the “best deal culinary event in Boston.”
Anyway, the evening was not a total loss. We did get out on a weeknight (crazy married people! haha) and the weather was nice.

aww how disappointing. It’s awful when you are really looking forward to something and it doesn’t live up to your expectations. Now just wait till you have kids darlin’ you’ll be whoopeeing that you got to go to the grocery store alone.. let alone out, at night, on a weeknight hehe

Crazy married people! Ha, ha.
If you live near Craige, then you live near Formaggio’s too, right? I could live at Formaggio’s. Yum!
I wanted to go to that event and now I’m kind of glad I didn’t. The restaurants in Cambridge are fabulous and there isn’t as big of a turnover in Camb. as some of the restaurants in Boston [well, at least not my favorite restaurants]. My very favorite… East Coast Grill. I highly recommend it -but not if you are a vegetarian.
Thanks for telling us about ‘Taste’.

$30 to get in sounds like a rip off–especially if the lines were too long to try the things you really wanted to try. But heck, getting out on a weeknight? priceless.

Aww, sorry it was disappointing. I’ve never even heard of Formaggio Kitchen–next time I’m in the Harvard area I’ll have to try to get there!

Yeah, that crap happens at those events. I hate when I go somewhere to eat something, then have to go somewhere else to eat more. If the money goes to charity I suppose it’s okay though.

You and Casey in your wedded bliss is so sweet, I love it! Sorry to hear about the culinary letdown….like you said though, you guys got to get out and enjoy being together in the nice weather! (I so did not mean for that to rhyme…it was an accident.)
