Harlot-y Goodness!

April 29th, 2005

I am going to sleep tonight a happy girl- I met the Yarn Harlot tonight. :)

She was just like I thought she would be- generous and freaking funny as hell. My face seriously hurt because I was smiling so much.

I went over to Circles in Jamaica Plain today to go see Stephanie (we are all on a first name basis in my imagination) and I was a bit nervous about it. I hadn’t gotten my act together to ask my only real-life knitting friend, Carolynn, to come with me so I decided I would just be brave and go by myself.

I thought I had made a huge mistake when I walked in and there was a sea of faces- friendly knitting faces but still. :) Then I walked into the other room to put my potluck contribution on the table and someone said, “Oh, it is Frecklegirl!” No way! Someone actually recognized me??!

Anyway, we all ate and chatted and then Stephanie gave her talk. She read a little from her book and made a room full of strangers feel like a community. She also patiently signed our books and talked with each person for a few minutes. (You would never know that she sometimes gets overwhelmed at these events; she handled it all with grace.)

Here is the lovely Harlot and myself- look, it is my first sock! :) With the queen of socks!

Harlot-1

I also met some other sweet people… there were tons more but I am so tired I can’t do any more linking.

It was so fun and makes me even more jealous that I can’t got to MSW. :( All I can say is, you people better take some awesome pictures and as Kate said, have a drink for me. :)

Good for you – going by yourself and having a great time! I don’t think she’s coming to MI. :-( I need to look into that…

I’m not sure I would recognize bloggers in real life, but I guess you never know. I haven’t run into any out in public yet. Suburban Bliss lives near me so maybe someday…

I recognized you the second you walked up to me! It was really neat to meet everybody face to face. You such a brave woman – going all by yourself. What guts! I don’t think I would have been able to go on my own.

I like your picture with Stephanie [yeah, I'm on a first name basis also]. Love that you have your first sock! Memento!

You were so cute! I’m so glad you walked up to us. I recognized you as soon as you walked in but was embarassed and feeling like a stalker if I just went right up to you. Sorry you can’t make it to MD but we’ll be thinking of you.

We are totally on a first name basis, and thanks for emailing me the notes on the sock yarn. It was so beautiful. It must be mine.
