Keeping the happy coming…

April 6th, 2005

Things that made me smile today:

1. Babies! Babies! Everywhere! (No, not here! Stop looking at me!) Chez VeryMom, they are expecting their third. Woohoo! And she’s got a brand new puppy too. Hope you are still eating that sugar, babes, you are gonna need the energy! :) No, really… congratulations!!

2. They fixed the freaking potholes on the road to work. This makes me very happy. It also makes my car not fear that the axles are going to be ripped apart. Yay! Go public officials! They have only been there for a month! :)

3. At Knit’s End. Casey was going to kill me last night. He was innocently sitting in bed, enjoying his own dorky reading material, and I just had to interrupt him every 5 seconds to read him a passage out of the witty Harlot’s book.

I am actually surprised that I like the book as much as I do. Now, don’t doubt that I love Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and that I am a loyal (yet shy) reader of her blog. The thing is that I was really looking forward to getting it in the mail and when I received it, it was not exactly what I thought it would be…

I was imagining that it was a series of anecdotes but it is not quite that… or not only that. Each page has a quotation (from folks like Einstein to David Letterman) and then there is a brief story and then a lesson or goal. A lover of gigantic books that require a real investment, I thought that I would not really get my hooks into it… what would draw me back?

Well, my friends. There is nothing to worry about on that front. This cute little book is great… it makes me feel like a member of a select club, who gets why knitting can be humorous and that it sometimes can take over your life. This book also makes me laugh out loud. In public places. Yes, I am that person.

4. We finished our damn wedding registries and got them up on our website. Now the relatives can just back the heck off.

I think we put off doing the registry because it feels a little funny to us. You go around a store with a little scanner and say, “I want people to buy me this… and this… and this.” It just feels a bit weird to me- gluttonous even.

I know, though, that when I am guest at a wedding, it is helpful to have the registry. You can actually buy them something that they actually need or want, which is nice.

5. I laughed and ate yummy mexican food with my brother and sweetie. Real Mexican food and delicious sangria. mmm! (I even tried a bite of this! I am sooo brave. haha)

Potholes are the worst. I hit one last spring and it popped one of my tires and I totally freaked out. I was in the process of trying to find Jaime since he had left for the grocery store like 2 hours ago. So I have no idea where he is and when I looked at the tire it looked crooked like I might have hurt the axle (though I didn’t) so I’m freaking out and bawling calling the grocery store and having them page him. And calling home and leaving hysterical messages. Finally he comes to my rescue and it turns out he was pissed at me and went shopping like an hour away. Butthead! Anyway, that’s why I’m scared of putholes lol. I love your wedding site, so pretty! :)

I LOOOOOOOOVE mexican food, and have been known to eat some pretty weird stuff…..but seriously….how did you even take a bite of THAT? Unfortunately, I clicked on the link to the pictures from Casey’s blog as I was eating my sausage mcmuffin at my desk this glorious morning. My stomach hurts now, and I don’t think its all from the McMuffin. You are so brave.

The wedding site is sooooo pretty! You guys did a great job!

I think this year is the year for babies, seems like every time I turn around I have someone else I need to knit a cute pair of booties for! :)

Wow that infected corn is narsty. You are definitely brave and can be a contestant on fear factor!

I thought registering was fun, but weird too. I felt bad registering for things that were expensive.

I’m getting that book as soon as possible (as if I need another book to read). Sounds too good to wait…

“Casey was going to kill me last night. He was innocently sitting in bed, enjoying his own dorky reading material, and I just had to interrupt him every 5 seconds to read him a passage out of the witty Harlot’s book. ”

Insert Randy’s name instead of Casey and you have my scenario from the other week. I kept reading them to him and reading them to him. He’s a good sport though.

I really love the artwork for your wedding. I wish I could print that stuff out and frame it and put it on my walls. Seriously. There is something so mystical and storybook about it.

I can’t believe you ate that stuff.
