Spoiled Rotten!

October 12th, 2004

I am going to preface this post with a word of caution. Casey and I are out of control. We know we have a problem and are saving for a wedding. We have made a pact to change our ways.

Now, on to the birthday madness!!

Casey is the sweetest boy. He woke me up with kisses and happy birthday exclamations. Then, he went and got me a pumpkin latte (Anyone else obsessed with all things pumpkin all of a sudden?!) and a croissant.

Then, because of aforementioned lack of control… it was present opening time!

gimmeeeeee!!

I love the necklace that he got me from Luka Designs! Isn’t she pretty?!

This is the coolest- don’t you just love Princess Bride? (from Neighborhoodies)

He also got me the neatest green apple pouch, from BoyGirlParty. I love little bags and boxes. It also has the greatest shamrock patterned fabric on the inside. I couldn’t get a good pic of it though…

He also gave me a crapload of cds and books- wooohooo! I can’t wait to dig into those books and I am already loving the cds. (books: Madeleine is Sleeping, Getting Things Done, Falling Angels, In a Sunburned Country, Almost French, Little Earthquakes, Madam Secretary, and Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.

Also, the sweetest mini-fridge ever. (I hate putting my stuff in the office fridge- eeeww!) It even has a light!

These socks from Sock Dreams are awesome- he even got me some of those Japanese socks you can wear with flip flops, socks that come in packs of three (for when you lose one), and some soft tootsie pampering ones!

Also, he gave me some lovely chocolate from England that comes in the most unusual flavors. (cinnamon, carmelized almond, coconut, arabic spices, chili pepper, cardamom, and rose)

Ok- we are in the home stretch, people. :)

BUT there is a little bit more, mainly THE YARN.

Oh, the yarn!

My mom and dad gave me some beautiful squishy gray yarn to make a cabled/ ribbed cardigan- here is me looking at the Debbie Bliss book where the pattern is and a picture of the pattern. (I am too tired to scan it right now but you get the idea.)

Casey gave me that fabulous pink yarn in the front- it is Phildar’s Copacabana. It feels so lovely and the color is so cheerful! He also got me some Lorna’s Laces to do the Clapotis scarf from Knitty. I was not a huge fan of the color that he chose so we are going to exchange it. (he does great a picking out things for me though!)

You can also see in the photos above that he also got me some Phildar magazines, which are awesome. I am definitely going to be giving some of those patterns a shot! He also got me a needle traveling case from the Organized Knitter. It is so pretty.

Okay, you made it through the presents. (I hope people actually make it this far! The best thing really is coming up!)

We went to dinner at a restaurant in Beacon Hill called, LaLa Rokh. It is a Persian restaurant and we had a super delicious meal with all sorts of new flavors and textures. We both enjoyed it and I know we will go back. We didn’t really have any room left for dessert which is okay because we had to go home and have birthday cake! (once our bellies freed up a little room!)

Casey made the CUTEST. CAKE. EVER. It has Shawn on it, from Wallace and Gromit’s A Close Shave. Isn’t this the most adorable thing you have ever seen?

(Let’s not even talk about my cake baking “skills“, okay? ahem. We know who will be baking our kids cakes someday…)

Okay. Lights out!

    Holy. Crap.

    That’s awesome.

(My heart soared, and then crashed, to find that Sock Dreams carried LOOSE SOCKS, but now they’re discontinued…)

    Happy Birthday, Peach.

  2. Kelly Sue DeConnick Says:

(Also, there may be a compatibility problem – I’m on Safari and when I click on your pictures for the bigger versions I get pop-up windows that show small sections of the picture and refuse to resize. Is this some kind of cruel tease…?)

  3. frecklegirl Says:

Thanks! The popup thingy is fixed. Good night!

  4. Stacey Says:

I am adoring all things pumpkin – The Boyfriend even got a pumpkin hued shirt the other day, I just couldn’t resist.

Happy Birthday! You two are the sweetest and everything was so awesome! You deserve to be treated like a…princess…;) and Casey, you did SO GOOD.

  9. sue Says:

Oh, my goodness! That is out of control!

When I wrote to congratulate you about your engagement, I was totally jealous…and very single. Now, would you believe, I’ve met a man (potentially as cool as Casey) who buys me gift certificates to yarn stores just “so I can enjoy knitting” AND wants to marry me. Holy Cripes! He even likes the Princess Bride!

Oh, and I’ve read “Falling Angels.” Try “Girl with a Pearl Earring” and “The Lady and the Unicorn” and “The Virgin Blue,” all by Tracy Chevalier. She’s a great lady…I’ve gotten to interview her, and she’s totally down to earth and unpretentious. And a fabulous writer!

    Happy, happy Birthday!

  10. Allison Says:

  11. carrie Says:

OMG! SCORE! Your beau is quite the man!!!! I think he could give workshops or somethin’…you know, on “How to Pamper Your Gal!”

  14. Sara Says:

What great gifts! I guess you had the best birthday, then, right? The cake is fantastic! Casey could have a side business to make money for the wedding with that kind of talent.. and I love the Princess Bride, so I think that shirt rocks. You are so lucky — not just for the gifts for for all of the love!

  15. Anne Marie Says:

Wow, happy birthday! The gifts are awesome!
As for the pumpkin obsession…the swanky wedding I went to last weekend had little pumpkin puff pastry thingies in addition to the cake, the groom’s cake and the cheesecake. I personally have no love for actual oumpkins, but I do love to say and type pumpkin pumkin pumpkin.
    Have a great day!

  16. Jenn Says:

    The Shaun cake rules!

  17. angela Says:

The BEST thing is: you also get to spend NEXT year with the incredible cake-decorating gift giver! And the year after that! And the year after that! I’ve managed to save up roughly $57775 in my bank account, but I’m not sure if I should buy a house or not. Do you think the market is stable or do you think that home prices will decrease by a lot?
