More beer and potato salad

August 25th, 2004

Casey and I went to see our friend Brook tonight and to meet his girlfriend, Marissa, who just moved up to the Boston area. It was really fun- they grilled up some veggies and chicken, we brought over some beer and potato salad (why do I keep making potato salad?!), and we sat around and laughed all night.

It was good times. :)

I met Brook a couple years ago when first started going to study abroad conferences. I didn’t know anyone in the field yet and felt a bit out of sorts. Brook and I met and did that thing like kids do on the first day of summer camp:

“Do you know anyone?”

“No, you?”

“Nope. Wanna hang out?”

“Sure.”

“Cool.”

So after that we were study abroad buds. :)

He lives really close by, just on the other side of Harvard Square. We should see more of them. I should clean up this place and have a Japanese-style dinner in our living room. We live in a really small place and don’t have room for a 4 person set table- sad, ain’t it? Well, that is ok. I am sure they won’t mind. We should also have my best friend, Julie, over and her fiance- we definitely owe them more than one meal over here! New resolution! :)

It was fun to hang out with another couple and see them interact. They are totally cute together. I just remember Marissa saying something really funny and Brook was laughing and looking at me like, “Isn’t she the cutest?!” It was awesome.

On an unrelated, random note: I am struck today by how much I am enjoying this blogging thing. I can’t believe that people actually come by here and read stuff that I wrote… Wow. :) And even better, they write me happy comments and emails. It rocks!

You guys are awesome. Thanks for reading my silly site.

Yay, that sounds like a fun time definitely.

You’re making me hungry with the tater salad references again.

Thanks for making your site so enjoyable to read. Cause you know we wouldn’t come over if you weren’t interesting…. :)

You really shouldn’t be surprised that people come here to read what you’ve written (although I understand the feeling b/c I am constantly surprised that people read me too, lol)… Blogs are funny that way, in that once you start reading them, you feel as if you get to know the author. Since I’ve started reading yours, I feel as if I’m getting a glimpse into how nice you are. You just exude warmth and friendliness – even through a monitor. LOL! (Now that I’ve read on Carrie’s blog how nice you were on the phone, I know that my feelings were right!)

    Hi there,
I’ve been reading your site for a couple of weeks and you are such a hoot! I haven’t had the chance to get into knitting, but there are a couple of knitting cafes opening here in Portland (OR) that I might check out. Your boy is sweet, too, and I love your story! I’m a new mom.. and have such little time.. your snippets are perfect, even when you are having a bad day. :) Reading this blog is really making me want to come to the East Coast!
Keep up the good work.. Sara in PDX

Of course we keep reading! It’s a glimpse of something bright to help us forget for a moment our drab, wretched lives. ;-)

what kind of potato salad do you make???

There are so many ways to make it, and every family does it differently.

    (I know this is completely boring, but…. ;) )

My mother makes it like my father’s french mother. It is almost like mashed potatoes with boiled eggs, green onions, a little mayo and lots of pickles.

I have a friend who makes German-Style potato salad and it is vinegar-y and wonderful– and the potatos are soft but chunky.

Then I’ve had some with the peels still on the potato! That was good too.

Anyway. I must be bored, to talk about potato salad for this long. Either that, or realllly hungry!

I’ve been lurking for a little bit now. I love reading your blog. In fact, you inspired me to start my own blog and learn how to knit! Thanks for the inspiration!

wow! I love all the blog love in here! Miss Freckle, you are such a sweet girl, and yes, helping me to pick up my crocheting needle again. Right now I’m working on something long and pink. ;)

i was saying the other on someone else’s blog that blogging is journalling with an audience – and a much nicer audience than the critical one in your mind – so I think it’s a good thing. I know it’s a good thing.

Plus, I love having a knitty sisterhood. (grin)

i just read cuz i have nothing better to do at work. ha ha ha! just kidding…

you and casey are both friendly wonderful people, its so funny but i was telling a friend of mine about your engagement and how it happened and i just said “my friend out east got engaged… ” and i was thinking, ha ha, i called her my friend! but its so true that its a wonderful network of people that i have come up with by doing this… where else would i get to babble away about nothing…

potato salad… i do not like it. BUT! theres a bar out here that makes what they call Cajun Potato salad, the boy and i have figured this simply to be roasted potato chunks in a mayo/cajun spice dressing kinda thing, served hot. its soooooo yummmy. we will have to experiment more with it and see if we can break it down to a recipe.

    babble over.

    xo
