Forecast

October 8th, 2007

I am totally in shock over here- I finished knitting something!!!

I started this sweater last spring but then it got too hot to knit with wool. Plus, Ravelry snatched all my knitting time and wouldn’t give it back. :)

Luckily, with the weather getting a bit crispier (at times) here in Boston the last couple weeks, I haven’t been able to resist any longer and Forecast finally got off the needles.

(color is wonky for some reason in the 1st image- others are more color accurate)

Pattern is, of course, Forecast by the lovely mommy-to-be Stefanie Japel.

The yarn is Plymouth Tweed in 5320, burgundy/ dark plum.

More details here on Ravelry! (Sorry for those still waiting!!)

Clearly, no time to blog

September 26th, 2007

I just have to pop up again and say that I am still alive.

I miss my blog!!

Anyway- you can find me on Ravelry (of course) and on Flickr- I have time every once in a while to pop some pictures up there.

I am definitely not giving up this blog permanently. Hopefully, things will be less crazy in a month or so. We are in the big push to get everyone who is waiting into the site and getting it into public beta (open to the public but still in development) We can’t wait to see you all there!

We update the Ravelry blog waaay more than I do this one. (Our last post is about how we were on Stash and Burn- super fun talking with Nicole and Jenny!)

Casey and I are going to Rhinebeck! We are thinking about having a Ravelry get-together on Saturday evening that complements Morehouse Merino‘s event (so people can attend both if they choose). If you are attending the festival, please go here and let us know if and when you would be able to attend.

Oh and one last thing! For those of you who are in Ravelry already, we are selling three Beta t-shirts. They are only going to be available while we are in Beta (and probably not that long now!) go to the main Ravelry page for a link. I am super excited about them.

This post is sorta lame- so here is a photo from the fabulous Julie Prem. (She was also our wedding photographer). We are at Maya and Steve’s awesome wedding a couple weeks ago! (Visual proof that we get out of the house and away from Ravelry sometimes!)

Whoa! Where'd I go?

July 15th, 2007

I have an immense feeling of accomplishment at this moment. Guess how many messages are in my inbox? 15!!!! That is almost a single digit! weeee! It only took me all day but whatever- I am so happy.

It’s been kinda crazy around here- Casey and I have been super busy trying to get Ravelry open to the public. We have been filing paperwork to make us a real company, getting business bank accounts and PO boxes. Casey has a spot for us saved at a data center down the street from us that will be ready in about a month.

(We originally wanted to go with a solar-powered center in New Mexico but they are just not focused on our type of website. We would happily spend more money to go with a green choice, but this was a *lot* more money. Also – if something went wrong it, well, is in New Mexico. You should check them out though for your website, if you have one. Their regular hosting prices are competitive and every little bit helps!)

It is starting to feel real! We are doing this thing! I just feel so overwhelmingly grateful to this wonderful community of ours… thanks so much for helping us push our dream along. (cheese factor = 10)

We also got Ravelry World Headquarters assembled (desks from ikea). Casey’s is not camera ready since he hasn’t put up his stuff on the walls but you can see mine by clicking that link. We even have a white board- fancy!

Casey and I have also been getting out and exercising- we joined the YMCA and have been swimming and doing cardio at the little gym. It has been fun to move after all these months of sitting on our butts working on the Rav.

It has been just awesome having Casey here at home- we work hard and long but we cook together and go places and see movies occasionally. Casey is the one in the house who likes to cook so I have gladly relinquished the reins to him on that… I am still a faster chopper though. :)

Help! The veggies are taking over the house!

We also went up to Manchester, NH for the Knitting and Crochet Guild summer show. We ran into some Ravelers (thanks for saying hi, guys!), including Cirilia and Kathy from Webs. I totally forgot to take out my camera until Cirilia reminded me. I think we were both equally excited to see each other!

Guildshow

Casey was giving the guy on his shoulder the evil eye- not Kathy or myself. :)

What else? In list form because I am brain dead:

1. I have been laughing my butt off watching the Flight of the Conchords on HBO. Watch that show. Seriously!

2. OH! Anybody wanna scare some muggles? Check this out. Be nice and thoughtful in your comments, if you chose to make one- rise above! (I shook my fist a time or two at the screen reading those comments!! ack!) The Feedburner thing says that 440,000 people read that site.

3. I saw John Edward (his site is down for some reason so wikipedia it is) on the streets of Boston the other day. Casey didn’t stop the scooter. I may never forgive him. I squealed, “That’s John EDWARD!” and tried to jump off but then decided against it. John. Edward. ahh!

4. And lastly, what would a fg post be without some Bob love??

These are from the 4th of July- when we went up to NH to Casey’s mom’s lake house. Apparently, fish are very scary! He was a total nutjob- barking and growling at them. Then, fully recovered a little while later.

Year 2- Check!

June 25th, 2007

Thank you all so much for hearing my very last minute plea for help- Casey and I spent the weekend in Ogunquit, Maine.

It was just perfect. Casey found a lovely B&B, the Beauport Inn, where the innkeepers were SO nice and accommodating. It is a new building but the owners are very well-traveled and made it a very homey and eclectic without being overly cluttered. (super clean, and all that too)

We walked a lot- just enjoying the beautiful weather and spending very quiet time together. (no cell phones, no television, no computers)

It was just what we needed. :)

And… because I can’t help it. I put some pretty pictures of our wedding day in this flickr set- already two years ago! (I still never tire of looking at the pictures- was such a fun day!)

It feels good though- we have done a lot since we got married. Bought a house, got Bob and now starting our own business- in something that we love! I am a lucky girl.

Favorite New England destinations?

June 21st, 2007

Casey and I are very late this year in getting together our anniversary plans… Like this blog, and the dust bunnies around the house, there as a lot that has just been abandoned since the Ravelry monster took over.

Anyway, we really want to have a special weekend away- yes, THIS weekend. So, I am asking you guys- are there any cool places within reasonable driving distance of Boston that you would recommend? We are going to the Berkshires next weekend to meet up with my parents so that part of the state is out. We will probably go for Saturday and Sunday night, or just Sunday night depending on the cost of the accommodations.

- I’d like a place that has some sort of activities- walking in the woods, bike riding, etc. We have been very sedentary lately, working on the site and I would like to move a little!

- We love eating good food.

- Would prefer some place relatively romantic and pretty.

We were looking at Nantucket (eek- expensive!), and Provincetown and are really up for whatever- doesn’t necessarily have to be a beach location…

PLEASE HELP! Please! :)

(ps- I miss blogging!)

Something you may not know about me.

If the following movies are on cable, I must watch them: Everything is Illuminated and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I have seen them both countless times.

Sad but true.

Ravelry Sneak Peek

June 5th, 2007

Casey put up some info and screenshots on the site so that people who are waiting can take a look at what the site is really all about! (Just in case you missed seeing it on the Ravelry blog.)

Go here to see it.

(I will post about other things besides Ravelry, I promise. snooore.)

Waiting for a Ravelry invite?

June 4th, 2007

Casey wrote up a little page for you guys.

Please read it.

It is now linked on the front page of Ravelry.

Thank you so much. This is certainly a great learning experience. :)

(Please – don’t make too much of a fuss over this. We don’t want to start any trouble- just want to try and communicate with the people who are patiently waiting to get in.)

Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts and emails about Casey’s grandfather. I can’t believe I am such a blogging slacker to leave that post up here for so long.

Grampa passed away last friday and we went to his service on Tuesday. It was a lovely funeral, if you can describe a funeral as lovely. He and Casey’s grammy were very active in the church so the minister really knew him, which made the service feel very personal. Casey’s aunt, cousin, and sister talked a bit and we all cried. But really it was about remembering one of the most gentle and sweet men we have ever known.

He was cremated and is now housed in an antique 1930′s radio- which seems kinda weird but for many years, he restored antique radios. Used to go to conventions and everything to talk about radios and see what other hobbyists were doing.

I was kind of inwardly scoffing to myself just now when I realized how hypocritical that is… After all, I just drove 2 hours by myself to see a woman talk about knitting. (Not teach something… just talk about it.)

So, maybe the radio convention thing isn’t that bizarre.

Here is a picture of Casey with his grandparents from our wedding- I love this one because this is what his grandparents were always like. Taking care of each other. :) A great lesson for marriage, that.

Next up, Harlot sighting!

May 23rd, 2007

Just a quick note to let you guys know that Casey and I are not going to be around today. Casey’s 94 year old grandfather had a stroke last night and we are with him.

Thank you…
